Youth in Government Program
The YMCA Hawaii State Youth Legislature program was born out of the need to
encourage teenagers of our island home to practice active citizenship. Sponsored
by the YMCA of Honolulu, the YMCA Hawaii State Youth Legislature is a mock
legislative program which starts with training in August and culminates with the
State Session.
The program allows teens opportunities to:
- Examine and research current issues.
- Practice written and oral communication.
- Interact with others to gain self-confidence and new perspectives.
- Learn to form and express your opinions.
- Handle opposing views in a positive manner.
- Be exposed to possible career options.
- Gain experience that you can include in your resumes.
- Make lasting friendships.
