Group Leader

POSITION:          Group Leader       

LOCATION:         Camp H.R. Erdman

SALARY:            $9.50/hour
STATUS:            Full time/non-exempt

Under the supervision of the program directors, the Group Leader will facilitate groups in various camp activities. Groups will include schools programs, conference and retreats, and summer resident camp. Activities include high and low ropes, teambuilding, environmental education and lifeguarding. This is a year round, hourly full time role


  • Facilitate high ropes, low ropes, teambuilding, environmental ed. and lifeguarding.
  • Use good judgment when leading activities.
  • Attend staff trainings and meetings.
  • Other duties as required that pertain to the operation of a camp facility including cleaning communal areas, guest cabins, and bathrooms and shower houses as needed.
 Child Development:
  • Be a role model for & develop positive meaningful relationships with youth.
  • Provide children with the opportunities to make new friends and learn new activities.
  • Be concerned with participant development & growth.
  • Be aware of health and safety concerns.
  • Recognize and respond to opportunities for the group so that each individual experiences success.
  • Ensure that each and every participant is included in the group.
  • Ensure that Camp Erdman is a positive and memorable experience for every participant


•    College Degree
•    Current CPR and First Aid
•    Certified lifeguard training required (or able to obtain)
•    High ropes training required (or able to obtain)
•    TB Clearance
•    Experience working with children
•    Experience with high ropes and aquatics activities preferred
The Group Leader must have a thorough understanding of the YMCA’s mission and goals, and a desire to work with children and adults of all ages. Leadership skills, enthusiasm, patience, a sense of humor and self control are all essential.  The ability to lead, train and collaborate with other staff is essential. Person must have the ability to provide and take ownership of fun and innovative programs for youth. Organizational and planning skills are essential.
