Exciting News from the YMCA of Honolulu

YMCA and Furlough Days / Winter Break

YMCA AND FURLOUGH DAYS – WE’RE HERE FOR YOU

Need help on Furlough Fridays? The YMCA of Honolulu is offering one-day programs at 10 sites throughout Oahu, including seven YMCA branches, YMCA Camp Erdman on the North Shore, Pearlridge Elementary School and Manoa District Park.The program includes homework time and guidance, enrichment, recreational and sports-related activities. WINTER BREAK IS JUST AROUND THE CORNER

Register your kids for the YMCA winter school break program – December 21, 2009 - January 1, 2010. The YMCA offers a fun, learning environment in our youth programs at branches across Oahu, including YMCA Camp Erdman. Check out the schedules and rates on the YMCA website and register online. MAKE A YEAR END GIFT AND HAVE IT MATCHED

YMCA Teen Programs

The Clarence T. C. Ching Foundation has generously posed a 2009 challenge grant for the YMCA of Honolulu. The foundation will match all year-end gifts made to the YMCA of Honolulu by 100% (up to $50,000 total)! The matched dollars will benefit the YMCA Teen Development Fund, which supports innovative programming and events for Oahu’s next generation. Gifts must be postmarked or made online by December 31st, 2009 in order to qualify for the Clarence T. C. Ching Foundation Challenge Match.

Turkey Swim

IT’S GOBBLE, GOBBLE FUN – NOVEMBER 15

It’s the 25th annual celebration of the The Turkey Swim, an open race at Ala Moana, featuring the Classic 2K Swim and the Turkey Lite 1K Swim. Great fun for novice swimmers and seasoned racers! UNLIMITED DANCE PASS FOR CHILDREN, TEENS AND ADULTS

Whether it’s “Toddler on Toes” or jazz, street, funk or hip hop, the dance choice is yours at the Central YMCA. An “unlimited” pass allows participants to attend as many classes as are appropriate for their age and skill level. Enroll today whether it’s just dancing for fun and exercise or to prepare for “Dancing with the Stars!” Details!

 
First Annual Reindeer 5K Fun Run

YOU KNOW DASHER AND DANCER AND PRANCER AND VIXEN…

Run with the famous reindeers at the First Annual Reindeer 5K Fun Run on Sunday, December 13. It’s holiday fun for everyone as you make your way from Mililani District Park, wind through Mililani Town and finish at the Mililani YMCA in this 3.1 mile fun run. Bring a toy for “Toys for Tot” when you register and get an entry fee discount! Details!

 
Military Camps

YMCA TEAMS UP TO SERVE OUR MILITARY FAMILIES

November 20-22 – The Hawaii Operation: Military Kids Family Camp Erdman

This family camp is intended to provide much needed time for Reserve, Guard and Active Duty families to connect after a deployment or before an impending deployment. Activities offered at YMCA Camp Erdman include archery, swimming, crafts, kayaking, hiking, ropes course, climbing wall, campfires, keiki-only groups and special events. December 18-21 – Operation Purple Family Retreat

YMCA Camp Erdman is proud to partner with the National Military Family Association and Operation Purple for our first Operation Purple Family Retreat from December 18-21, 2009. This four-day family camp will be held at YMCA Camp Erdman and is designed to assist with the reintegration process. For more information or to register, click here.

In partnership with HMSA, the YMCA is helping our members and community eat healthier, stay fit and healthy and live longer and happier lives. Join us at the following education workshops and assessments.

November 6: HMSA HealthPass

Book your HealthPass appointment, a unique benefit for HMSA members that begins with an in-depth assessment of your current lifestyle and health habits. Appointments available at the Mililani YMCA on November 6 from 7:00-10:00 a.m.

November 9 and 23: Season’s Eating

Learn strategies to maintain your weight and health during the tempting holiday season. Join this workshop at the Leeward YMCA on November 9 from 5:00-6:00 p.m. and again at the Nuuanu YMCA on November 23 from 6:00-7:00 p.m.
