Why
Give To The YMCA of Honolulu?
We will always be here to serve our
communities, in good times and bad.
The YMCA of Honolulu is a nonprofit 501
(c) 3 organization founded in 1869. For 142 years, the Y has worked side by
side with our local communities through wars, economic downturns, social
upheaval and health crises. The YMCA is committed and equipped to meet the
needs and challenges of the thousands of families we serve each year.
Your donation goes a long way at the
YMCA, because we manage it well.
Charity Navigator gave the YMCA of
Honolulu a four-star rating (the highest rating possible) in 2009 and 2010 for
donor return on investment. Over ninety
cents for each dollar contributed (90%) goes directly to provide financial
assistance for youth, teens and families to participate in YMCA programs and to
subsidize youth and teen programs. Most organizations’ overhead
averages 18-25%. The Y is committed to keeping its administrative costs low,
while still providing quality programs.
Our youth and families need the
YMCA, more than ever.
The Y is one of the largest providers of
youth and teen programs in Hawaii (including after school programs and teen
outreach/counseling). The severe economic downturn has created hardship for our
local families. The demand for financial assistance and programs to continues
to grow. In 2009, the YMCA launched “Membership for All”, an island-wide
membership program that makes the YMCA more accessible to all, regardless of
ability to pay. In 2010 the Y assisted youth and families with $1,000,000 in
financial assistance to participate in many Y programs.
We value our supporters.
At the Y, we consider donors part of our
YMCA membership ohana. Many of our donors have supported our Y for their entire
lives, and for several family generations. These relationships can only exist
when there is a high level of trust, as our communities have for our YMCA.
We are strong fiscal managers.
In spite of the current economic downturn,
the YMCA remains debt-free and adequately staffed with well-trained
professionals. We invest in our facilities, staff and programs to better serve
our community.
Please give to the YMCA of Honolulu
