Since 1986, the YMCA of Honolulu has been building strong kids, strong families and strong communities. One way we do this is by building strong buildings for our programs and for our community use on Oahu. Our current campaign, "Reaching for Tomorrow," started in 2002, focusing on some of Oahu's less fortunate communities such as Kalihi, Waiphau and Waianae.
The new Kalihi YMCA opened in 2003 and is actively serving the Kalihi community through wellness programs, a teen center, hip hop dance classes for youth and other community outreach and counseling programs.
In early 2007, the Leeward YMCA became a reality for the Waipahu community with families and youth now actively utilizing the YMCA's programs and services. In addition, the completion of the Leeward YMCA, which is located at the home of the historic Oahu Sugar Mill, has preserved an important part of the past, making it once again a vibrant place to live, work and do business.
There is still more work to be done to close the financial gap and make the Leeward YMCA debt-free. We ask the community to continue to support our efforts so that the YMCA can solely focus on bringing vital programs and services to the families of the greater Waipahu community.
The Kresge Foundation has generously extended a matching opportunity for the Leeward YMCA. Through December 2007, every gift you make to the "Reaching for Tomorrow" Capital Campaign will be added to The Kresge Foundation matching opportunity.
Naming opportunities still are available at the Leeward YMCA. For more information about the capital campaign and naming opportunities at the Leeward YMCA, please contact Monica Grant at
