One of the most important aspects of building a global community is giving young people and adults opportunities to understand and celebrate diversity. The Y helps people to develop cultural competencies and the key skills to collaborate with their peers around the world. From global curricula in camping and afterschool programs to international service-learning opportunities and partnerships, the Y gives people the knowledge, experience and confidence to successfully interact in our increasingly globalized society.2012 Philippine Project
For the past several years, the Rotary Club of Honolulu has visited the Philippines and carried out significant service projects. This year, the YMCA of Honolulu along with other organizations will collaborate with the Rotary Club of Honolulu and travel to the Philippines to perform humanitarian services.In 2006, a massive rock slide avalanche buried Guinsaugon village in the town of St. Bernard, Southern Leyte. This devastating landslide widespread damage and loss of life. Since then, Rotarians and their partners have invested hundred of thousands of dollars to rebuild the area. This year, 24 participants representing the Rotary Club of Honolulu and the YMCA of Honolulu will build a two-classroom schoolhouse.
