Environmental Education Coordinator

Position: Environmental Education Coordinator
Location: Camp Erdman
Salary Range: $360 - $450/week
Status: Seasonal (August 15, 2022 - May 13, 2023)/
 POSITION SUMMARY:
Under the supervision of the Camp Director of School and RetreatPrograms, this position primarily involves the supervision and leading of a variety of safe and fun Outdoor Education activities, with a strong emphasis on Environmental Education. The Environmental Education Coordinator will coach and mentor Program Instructors, improve/revamp existing programs, and facilitate various camp programs. The Environmental Education Coordinator must have a thorough understanding of the YMCA’s mission and goals, and a desire to work with children. Leadership skills, enthusiasm, patience, a sense of humor, and self-control are all essential.


QUALIFICATIONS:

Skills/Knowledge:
•    Experience working with children in a camp or outdoor recreational setting required.
•    Requires understanding of childhood development and group management in a general camp setting.
•    Camp leadership experience required.

Education/Training:
•    Must possess a high school diploma or GED.
•    CPR/AED and First Aid required.
•    TB test required.
•    Must be able to successfully complete YMCA Camp Erdman’s High Ropes Facilitator Training.
•    Must be able to successfully complete YMCA Lifeguard Training.
•    Degree in Biology, Botany, Earth Sciences, Environmental Science, Hawaiian Studies, Marine Biology, Marine Science, Natural Science, or similar field of study or equal work experience required.
•    YMCA or Red Cross Lifeguard Certification preferred.
•    Ropes facilitation experience preferred.

Benefits:
•    Coordinators shall be a seasonal, non-exempt employee.
•    On-site, seasonal housing provided at no cost to employees. Housing includes gas, electric, water, and sewer utilities at no cost. Housing assignment is made at the discretion of the Camp Director of School and Retreat Programs, and per separate, written agreement.
