The Y, and all of us are a part of something even greater and we all know we face some troubling times ahead. Sustainable solutions come from our ability to continuously provide opportunities for students to learn and receive hands on experiences that trigger their spirits, minds, and ultimately, bodies to action. That is the place of support Atherton will continue to be.
In 2015 the United Nations adopted the 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). Through 2030, these “new Goals that will universally apply to all, countries will mobilize efforts to end all forms of poverty, fight inequalities, and tackle climate change.”
At Atherton, we will align our YMCA of Honolulu’s strategic priorities with the SDGs. This alignment will create a platform to recruit students, recruit board members, start new programs, increase fundraising opportunities, and grow collaborations. Our Cause-Driven student leaders, volunteers, partners, and staff will gain understanding of our global issues to address challenges here at home.
Atherton in Action
The Atherton Y uses the power of friendship and fellowship to nurture the potential of every individual; creating opportunities for everyone to learn, grow, and thrive together as we positively impact communities.
Listen to Diana Lopera, a dedicated Atherton YMCA volunteer and leader, share how the Y shaped her story after moving to Hawai`i from Saipan.
