Chronic Disease Programs
The Windward Y currently offers a variety of classes to prevent & manage chronic disease:
- Enhance Fitness is class geared towards Arthritis management. This class is recognized
by the CDC for it's benefits to those suffering from Arthritis and it is
also a certified fall prevention class. This 16 week program is held 3
days a week: Monday, Wednesday & Friday from 2:30-3:30pm in our group
exercise studio. A small fee of $29 is required for member
participation. Non-member rate is $169 and includes a 4 month membership
to the YMCA. Financial assistance is available to those who qualify.
Spring session starts on Monday, January 6, 2020! Please join us on Friday, January 3 from 12-1pm for pre & post fitness testing, orientation & a meet and greet potluck for participants. Enrollment is ongoing so you can join at any time. Please feel free to stop by the welcome center for a one-time guest pass to try the class before committing to the 16 weeks.
- Parkinson's class,
developed by Kevin Lockette, is based on the MOVE-IT project,
works on improving cardiovascular endurance, strength, flexibility and
balance for individuals with Parkinson's Disease. Classes are offered
Mondays & Wednesdays from 1:30-2:30pm in our group exercise studio.
- The YMCA's Diabetes Prevention Program
is a year-long program centered around behavior change to prevent
Diabetes. Participants meet weekly, then bi-monthly & monthly to
learn about healthy eating, stress management, physical activity and
more with the goal of losing 7% body weight and increase physical
activity to 150 minutes per week. Cost for participation is $429,
however some insurance companies may cover some or all of the fees if

- The Healthy Weight and Your Child
program creates a safe, fun and active
environment for keiki and families to explore and adapt proven methods
to living a healthier lifestyle. This 4 month program focuses on healthy
eating, portion control, physical activity, goals & more. Children
ages 7-13 years old may qualify to participate in the program if they
have a BMI in the 95 percentile or higher. Please contact Chronic
