A+ After School Program

At the Y, After School Programs are more than just kid-watching. It's about engaging your children during those critical hours keeping them safe and thriving.

Through a partnership with the Department of Education, the YMCA of Honolulu provides after school care for nearly 7,000 children in grades K-6 through A+ programs at public schools across Oahu.

Capacity Limits Due To COVID-19

Minimum and maximum enrollment may apply due to COVID-19 capacity limits, and at some school sites, capacity may be temporarily limited due to current staffing challenges. Please note that our Y, like many other businesses and organizations, has been aggressively trying to recruit and hire additional qualified staff members, in what continues to be a very challenging job market. We have implemented a recruitment center to address the industry-wide staffing shortage and hope to fill these A+ Afterschool positions as soon as possible. In addition, we have been offering a $50 new hire bonus, as well as referral bonuses to our employees and Y members and program participants whose referrals we hire.

Payment Information

The monthly fee for the A+ Program is $120 per child. This fee is due on the 1st program day of each month. Your first month’s program fee will be due on the first A+ program day. The fee is set by the Department of Education and may be subject to change if your child’s school implements a blended school schedule.

For general questions, please call 808-678-4296, Monday to Friday, 8:00am to 5:00pm, or email info@ymcahonolulu.org.

Need Help Paying for A+?

During this crisis, DHS is temporarily expanding eligibility for Child Care Connection Hawaii (CCCH).

  • No income cap – CCCH subsidies will be awarded to all families impacted by this emergency, with priority given to underserved and at-risk families, so long as money is available.
  • Suspension of activity requirements – parents temporarily do not have to meet activity requirements to assist families who have lost jobs and are looking for new employment.
  • Suspension of subsidy co-payments – family co-payment for the subsidy payment may be waived
