Learn or refine skills in classes that include playing music and/or singing

The ukulele is a small, four-stringed guitar that’s popular in Hawaii. The Y offers two ways to learn and enjoy playing the ukulele—in dedicated ukulele sessions at the Windward Y and as part of the Hula Hui ‘O Kupunahala Hawaiian studies program at the Nu‘uanu Y, which incorporates ukulele, hula, and Hawaiian language and singing. 

Nu‘uanu Y

Hawaiian studies program that includes hula, ukulele, Hawaiian language, and singing for toddlers to seniors, under the direction of Kumu Hula Carolee Nishi. Saturday mornings and Monday evenings. Parents need to attend an orientation to enroll a child—call (808) 541-5279 for more information.

Ukulele with Uncle Walt for ages 13 and up, Mondays from 11-11:45am at the Daybreak Church Lanai, which is adjacent to the Windward Y. No registration is required and it’s free to join.
