Bryan Suka

Available in person at the Kaimuki Y.

What started with using my dad's old rusty weight lifting equipment in my backyard, has led to my love and affinity for health and fitness! As someone that has always loved food, I grew up as an overweight and unfit kid. In high school, I took a leap of faith in fitness and gained patience, perseverance, and consistency, which resulted in me losing 100 pounds!

My personal health and wellness journey includes 14 years of working out and 8 years on staff with the YMCA, where I have helped and given guidance to members on the fitness floor.

I have been blessed with working with and learning from other YMCA fitness professionals, and now am proud to be a certified personal trainer with the Kaimuki YMCA. I look forward to helping others realize their potential, overcome their obstacles, and reach their goals!

My training philosophy is that we each have the greatest impact on our health and well-being with not only exercise, but also with nutrition, stress management, recovery and our spiritual practices, which is why my training plans include whole wellness.

Enjoying what we do is necessary which is why my personal fitness journey includes: self defense classes, belly dancing, Tahitian, SUP, weight training, boxing conditioning and various group class formats. Melissa Mueller

Available in person at the Windward Y.

I began my fitness journey as a young adult. I grew up here in Hawaii, but I never availed myself of the climate and surroundings to find a path towards sustained, life-long health until my early twenties. My walk towards fitness started with huffing and puffing through my first aerobics class to my present role as personal trainer. Along the way, I had to overcome feelings of inadequacy about my body, recover from multiple stress injuries, and carry 4 healthy pregnancies. Each emotional and physical challenge provided me an opportunity to adopt, adapt, and overcome. These experiences taught me that it is never too late in life to start taking care of yourself and that life events should change the approach towards but not stop the pursuit of good health. I believe people have the power to change through dedication, attitude, patience, and a lot of planning. As your personal trainer, I hope to work with you to find your own enjoyable and sustainable pathway towards a healthier, fitter you!
