Getting Started

Find out what’s included, what to expect, and how to make the most of your membership.

What to Expect

In preparation for your first visit, remember to bring your photo ID. We’ll make your membership scan card when you arrive. Everyone on your membership will get a membership scan card. Those who are age 16+ will need to bring a photo ID.

On your first visit to the Y
  • Wear your face mask covering your nose and mouth at all times. Masks are required except when swimming in the pool or showering. Please do not wear a face mask with vents, a bandana, or a neck gaiter as these do not provide the same protection as a properly worn face mask.
  • Be sure not to come to the Y if you are feeling unwell, if you are experiencing any COVID-19 symptoms, or if you or a household member has an active or suspected case of COVID-19 or are mandated by the State of Hawaii to quarantine.
  • When entering the Y, please clean your hands using the hand sanitizer provided.
  • Due to COVID safety guidelines, water fountains are disable, and some Branch locker rooms and showers are temporarily closed [Currently only Nu'uanu and Leeward locker rooms and showers are open.]. So be sure to:
    • Come dressed to work out or swim.
    • Bring a workout towel, a filled water bottle, and a lock if you’d like to use one of the small express lockers located outside of fitness areas.
      • Please leave large bags and valuables at home. For storage of keys or personal bags, we ask members to either use one of our express lockers with their own personal lock, or members may wear a fanny pack to store their personal items while exercising. For safety reasons, we do not allow any bags or backpacks on the floor of our facility, and we are not able to store any personal items or bags at our Welcome Center.
    • Members who use the pool will have access to outdoor showers. We will have small baskets or a designated area for pool users to store their small bags, keys, and towels while they are in the pool.
      •  If your Branch locker rooms/showers are open: If you plan to work out, bring a lock and towel.
  • While in the facility, please practice social distancing. Follow all safety signage and floor markings, and wash your hands frequently. Clean any equipment/machines before and after use [use provided spray cleaners and paper towels], and respect your designated reservation time for the pool and classes. We ask that you be patient with us as we work to keep everyone safe and healthy.
  • Please ask us questions if you have them. Our staff at our Welcome Center and on the fitness floor are happy to help.
  • View complete details on how we are operating safely, what’s open, and other frequently asked questions.
Future Visits
  • You will be asked to self-scan in using the YMCA mobile app on your phone or your membership scan card; and when you leave, to scan out. Learn how to download the YMCA of Honolulu mobile app on your phone.
    • If you forgot your scan card or need assistance downloading and using our YMCA mobile app, our Welcome Center staff is available to assist.
  • Scanning in and out helps us keep track of our capacity to ensure we stay within current City guidelines. This also keeps the capacity monitor on our website up to date for members to use to gauge the current usage at each Branch. View the Capacity Dashboard to see our Y capacity in real time.
